Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a platformer video game notable for its difficult control scheme designed as part of the challenge to complete. Players use a hammer to propel themselves towards the steep hill with the intention of reaching the top. Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is a platformer video game with a philosophical undertone about a man, Diogenes, on his hike up a mountain.
A soothing journey in which you aim to climb a mountain using only your strong arms, the kettle around your waist, and your trusty sledgehammer. Getting Over It revolves around a man by the name of Diogenes — who, somewhat true to his namesake, resides in a large metal cauldron — and wields a Yosemite hammer, which he can use to grip objects and move himself. The game is accompanied by voice-over commentary by Bennett Foddy discussing various philosophical topics.
The commentary also provides quotations relating to disappointment and perseverance when significant progress is lost by the player. As the player progress up the mountain, they are at a constant risk of losing some or all of their progress; there are no checkpoints.
The game concludes when a player reaches the highest point of the map and then enters space. Upon reaching the conclusion, a message asks players if they are recording the gameplay. When a player indicates they are not, the game provides access to a chatroom populated by other players who have completed the game. You can then take these skills and apply them to clear earlier parts of the game more easily as you inevitably repeat them.

Any little misstep or bad swing can see you suffering a hard fall back to a certain point of the game or at worst, the very beginning. Simultaneously, listen up for Foddy's voice, which can be heard spouting commentary about your current situation and even words of encouragement. Feedback may be of little comfort though, as your sanity begins to run dry with the unfair, absurd nature of the game. Indeed, your character cannot die unless you happen to drop him in the lake left of the starting area.
There are no checkpoints. There is really no strict rule of thumb. It's a bit of a free for all and just plain hoping that you get over that mountain. It is insanity meets fun meets obsession. There are many platform video games out there that are waiting to be explored. Cited as one of the greatest video games of all time, Super Mario Bros offers a lot more stages with different levels of difficulty and a more complete storyline.
