Black Screen while RDP on Windows - Microsoft Q&A

Does the user just have a bad session on the RDS server? They could just be disconnecting and reconnecting to the same bad session. I rebooted both the rds server and the users machine to make sure there session was disconnected from and a new one was established. This will help narrow down if it is the user account or the Windows 10 machine that is the issue. I have run into weird issues with user accounts in the past that had loop-back GPOs applied to their account that messed up RDS sessions.

If you log into that Windows 10 machine with a different user, can that different user on that same Windows 10 machine RDP just fine? That will help narrow down if it is just the user profile on the Windows 10 machine that is the issue or the entire Windows 10 machine. I would defo try that user on another known good WS and vice versa. My current vote is for graphics drivers on the WS. Aside and completely different: We have a remote machine that is a fancy Dell Precision.

Using a different RDP client even a 3rd party one may also help to narrow down the root cause of the issue, so definitely worth trying. If another rdp client works or another machine works then what do I do to fix the machine that is giving us troubles?

It depends on what exactly does work or not work since the course of action will be different. Login or sign up to reply to this topic. Didn't find what you were looking for? Black screen and rebooting the server fixed it for a while. I don't have an answer, but I have it linked to TermService service crashing, despite not much in the logs indicating it.

TermService is unusual since it can't be stopped via services. Start TermService using net start TermService. I am still working on a solution. Todilo See my answer below. Show 5 more comments. Using Remote Desktop the remote screen turns black right after login and you have no control. The issue appears to be caused by Screen. Domain Users in our "Remote Desktop Users" group also have no issues remoting into Windows 10 Pro workstations we have, just this server.

Super User is a question and answer site for computer windows 10 pro remote desktop black screen free and power users. It only takes a minute to sign up. Connect and share knowledge within a single location pto is structured and easy to search. I've been having this issue since I updated fresh install to Windows 10 Professional. After installing W10 and setting up everything correctly ports, static IP etc I still can connect, but during the day it randomly kicks me out and I can't successfully log in afterwards.

It makes a secure connection and connects, but I get a black windowx without a cursor and disconnects a few seconds after that without any errors. Created a new account and tried logging on to that to test if it is account related, still didn't log in. It only says "the windows logon process has unexpectedly terminated". Using Remote Desktop the remote screen turns black right after login and you have no control.

The issue appears to be caused by Screen Caching and accessing a system with different display resolution or RDP window sizes.

I tried all of the above suggestions but none of them worked for me. Gemote just wanted to restart the remote desitop to see whether it will fix the issue. It indeed worked. I did the following to restart the remote machine via command line with admin privilege as I could not find a way to restart the remote machine via RDP. None of the other answers worked for me, I finally found something that did, after a lot of digging. There are a lot of settings to fiddle with in there, you could also try disabling RemoteFX graphics.

The windows 10 pro remote desktop black screen free desktop that I was connecting to had a eesktop resolution of x, while the home desktop I was connecting from was operating at x While that session was still openstarted another RDP client to the same machine, this time with display set to 'Large'.

The first RDP session automatically ended, the second one started at my current monitor's full resolution of x I've had the same problem - switch from 32bit to 24bit colours and it will let you connect as normal.

All other settings can be left on their defaults. In my case it was python miniconda, which has known issue spoiling PATH on linux in. Repeating a workaround documented by johnny Keeton above, proposing as answer because it worked for me when the other solutions above did not This might not help but I solved it by turning down the resolution.

The problem windows 10 pro remote desktop black screen free as the monitor I was connecting from was x, and the remote computer wouldn't allow that. Turning it down to x worked fine and I am now connected with everything showing. I had this issue since I was having different DPI. The RDP screen should no longer be black. I then move the RDP to my secondary screen. Not the peo work around, but it works. Right after the Oracle installation everything was fine and I also managed to install Lubuntu.

I've done everything through RDC. Suddenly, the screen went black. I haven't restarted the computer or done anything worth mentioning at all, xesktop just happened.

This all happened in one single session. I then tried restarting the computer manually, I fres all of the windows 10 pro remote desktop black screen free settings which helped other people and I also uninstalled Oracle VM. Nothing helped. In the end, I restored my computer to the state before I installed Oracle VM with a restore point that was generated automatically by my computer. Now RDC works again and I'm able to see the screen.
