I contacted a technician IT again. Through remote, he went through and finally solved the Windows Update problem. It took hours. I don't know how he did it. But then within two or three days, my laptop got worse - a lot of pauses and freezes.

I contacted IT again. It took hours again. Finally he believed it was a hard drive problem. This forced me to bring my laptop to him in person which I did. He finally confirmed it is a hard drive that spun slow about half time of revolutions per minute RPM. He believed it is the reason why the Windows Update was not successful because of the hard drive problem. He replaced a hard drive. Now I have my laptop back running very well.
